A resident of the city of Ufa, he is an otolaryngologist by profession.

On 24 March 2022, his home was checked and he was taken into custody. Dmitriev was charged with participation in the activities of a terrorist group, preparation for the violent seizure of power, public justification of terrorism, and attempted extortion or theft of weapons.

Defendants of the case have reported the use of violence against them during their transportation to the court and that investigators put pressure on them while they were held in pre-trial detention. This pressure was intended to force them to accelerate their familiarisation with the case materials.

According to Mediazona, Sergei Sapozhnikov, who also took part in the activities of the group and later became a witness in the case, gave testimony against the other participants. He stated that the group had been preparing to seize power.

On 16 December 2025, Dmitriev was sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment in a strict-regime penal colony.

How to write the letter?

Getting started
What can I write about?
On censorship: what can’t I write?
Is it allowed to send photographs?
What language do I use in my letter?
What are the limits on sending letters?
Should I expect a reply and do I have to respond?
How do I maintain the correspondence?
I would like to send letters by myself, how do I do it?
How else can I support Russian dissidents?
It says that the prisoner I was assigned was tried for terrorism, or extremism or something else scary, what’s up with that?
