On 24 March 2022, he was searched and sent to custody. Dmitriev was charged with participation in the activities of a terrorist community, preparation for the overthrow of power, public justification of terrorism and attempted extortion or theft of weapons
The defendants in the case reported the use of violence during their appearance in court, as well as the fact that investigators put pressure in the pre-trial detention centre, forcing them to speed up familiarisation with the case materials.
According to Mediazona, Sergei Sapozhnikov, who also participated in the work of the circle and is a witness in the case, testified against the participants of the circle. According to him, the circle was preparing to seize power.
On 16 December 2025 Dmitriev was sentenced to 20 years in a strict regime colony.
