A resident of Bakhchysarai, a father of five, and an activist of the "Crimean Solidarity" movement.

In 2019, he went on a solitary protest in Moscow. Because of that, he was detained and fined under the article on violation of a protest rally (Code on Administrative Offenses, article 20.2, part 5). In 2021, Umerov was detained by the police again, this time, near the "court" building in Crimea. He was fined under the article on failure to comply with the rules regarding emergency or threat of its occurrence (Article 20.6.1 of the CAO). In 2022, Umerov served several days of administrative arrest under the article on the organization of mass presence of citizens in one place, which led to a violation of public order (Article 20.2.2 of the CAO).

On August 24, 2023, Federal Security Service officers searched the home of Crimean Tatars in Bakhchysarai and other settlements of Crimea's Bakhchysarai district and detained six "Crimean Solidarity" activists, including Umerov.

How to write the letter?

Getting started
What can I write about?
On censorship: what can’t I write?
Is it allowed to send photographs?
What language do I use in my letter?
What are the limits on sending letters?
Should I expect a reply and do I have to respond?
How do I maintain the correspondence?
I would like to send letters by myself, how do I do it?
How else can I support Russian dissidents?
It says that the prisoner I was assigned was tried for terrorism, or extremism or something else scary, what’s up with that?
