Resident of Crimea. After the annexation of the peninsula to the Russian Federation, he left there and lived in mainland Ukraine. He worked as a coordinator of resettled people in the Health and Mercy Foundation, in taxis and on construction sites. In September 2017, Sagandzhi returned to Crimea to care for his seriously ill grandmother. According to the Crimean Human Rights Group, he was detained by the FSB in October 2017. According to unconfirmed reports, a criminal case was opened against him, the officers tortured him and demanded him to confess, but there is no information about what exactly Saganji was accused of at that time. All this time he was deprived of his liberty. In March 2018, he was charged with participation in an illegal armed formation, the Crimean Tatar Volunteer Battalion named after Noman Chelebidzhikhan, which apparently no longer existed at the time Saganji's incriminating actions began. On 23 January 2019, he was sentenced to ten and a half years in a strict regime colony.
