There were two searches in Arslanov's house, during them law enforcers broke down the flat door. According to him, he was interrogated until five o'clock in the morning, meanwhile it was claimed that he was in the status of a witness. Arslanov was initially told that he was investigated for arson. Arslanov admits that the publications that encouraged prosecution were "protesting and very harsh"; he explained that by the fact that his daughter lives in Kiev and slept in a bomb shelter. He was on personal recognizance. On 2 August 2023, Arslanov was sentenced to three years in a general regime penal colony. Local councillor Svetlana Kaverzina, who corresponded with Arslanov, claimed that his cat was killed during the search. On 4 December 2023, an appeals court reduced the sentence by two months.

How to write the letter?

Getting started
What can I write about?
On censorship: what can’t I write?
Is it allowed to send photographs?
What language do I use in my letter?
What are the limits on sending letters?
Should I expect a reply and do I have to respond?
How do I maintain the correspondence?
I would like to send letters by myself, how do I do it?
How else can I support Russian dissidents?
It says that the prisoner I was assigned was tried for terrorism, or extremism or something else scary, what’s up with that?
