Ayupov, a resident of Bashkortostan, was detained in Ufa on 6 February 2024. On 8 February, he was taken into custody on charges of participating in mass riots in connection with the rally in support of activist Fail Alsynov sentenced to four years in prison, which took place in Baymak on 17 January.
